Aside from active involvement in various campus/community service events, Kappa Phi Gamma Sorority is dedicated to enlighten and educate the public about its national philanthropy, cancer awareness. Every academic year during the month of April, National Cancer Awareness Month, each sorority chapter and colony proudly hosts CARE (Cancer Awareness- a Real Effort) Week. CARE Week is a truly unique and yet comprehensive initiative and has been recognized as such by the prestigious Asian Cup Award. It is the only one of its kind to dedicate a week of events aimed to increase public awareness about early detection and prevention of cancer by collaborating education with fun-filled, interactive events. Events that have been held in the past years include:
Kick-Off Rally
Bone Marrow Registration Drive
Lung Cancer Forum
Breast Cancer Forum
Skin Cancer Forum
Candlelight Vigil
CARE Fair
Make a Wish Foundation Volunteer Activity
Charity Dinner
Annual Miss Ugly Man Pageant and After-Party
Each year, any and all proceeds raised from CARE Week are donated to a cancer charity. Over the course of the past years, the following monetary funds have been raised by sorors and donated to the following organizations:
$1,000 – MD Anderson Cancer Center (1999)
$2,000- Candlelighters’ Childhood Cancer Foundation (2000)
$3,000- Make A Wish Foundation (2001)
$4,000- Children’s Cancer Fund (2001)
$3,000- Kelly Davidson Foundation (2002)
$3,000- Kids’ Unlimited (2005)
We hope you will join Kappa Phi Gamma Sorority in the fight against cancer. No deed is too big or too small. Whether you can give monetarily or you can lend a helping hand, there is always someone in need. If you would like to support us in our cause or are interested in further ways to get involved, please feel free to contact us.
